HELP!

I need help! For those of you with kids that are potty trained...PLEASE tell me how you did it!! I thought it would be a lot easier than it has been, but I was clearly wrong! I hear everyone say "Oh, she will do it when she's ready" or "it will just happen"...well, please tell me when! I am looking for any advice you can offer. Any tips and/or tricks that you used. I know most of you have boys, but they learn sitting down also, right? I have all the supplies that I thought it would take. What am I missing? Is she just being stubborn? She went twice last week at daycare, but never since then. What am I doing wrong?

So for us the key has to been to ditch the pull-ups (save them for bedtime). It's best to just pick a weekend and stay home to work on it. I'd put my kids in underwear or better yet, let them be naked during the day. They figured out that having pee run down your leg is not really that cool. I made them sit on their potty seat almost every hour. Make her drink a lot so that she will have to go. Give her books or little toys to play with while she sits there. Hopefully at some point she will actually go on the toilet. I learned NOT to reward with treats because then that becomes a habit. Instead I would do a crazy happy dance when they figured it out and made a really big deal about their success.

Ps. sparkly strawberry shortcake undies help too!

Well like you said, I have boys and NO mine learned standing up! But one thing is don't put her in pull ups she won't get it. Put her in some "cute" panties and just let her be in panties the minute you get home and on the weekends when you have all the time in the world (I know, who has time), but if you just keep it a fun activity and not a chore she will be more likely to "enjoy" the whole thing and think it's fun!!! She will pee in her underwear A LOT(that's why you don't put pants on her when she is at home learning)she will keep doing it too, but just tell her "that's why Bree we go on the toilet so we don't have to have it run down our legs". It will get easier and easier...but keep it a routine, every night when you get home from work, put her in underwear (it's all about consistancy), EVERY DAY WHEN YOU GET HOME!!! SHe will figure it out and soon she will be telling you when it's time to go potty! Oh and she will also poop in her underwear too....don't get mad, even though it is gross, just explain to her that that's what the potty is for!!! Good luck, she is a bright one, but you can do it!!! Oh and don't waste your $$ on pull ups...just use diapers, you will be the one taking it on and off, whether it be a pull up or a diaper (pull ups are just glorified diapers)...and at night time after she figures the potty thing out, stop putting diapers on her or she will continue to wet in them!! These are just things that worked for me, I know some mom's might not agree...but hey it's worth a try!

Both of my kids must have been late bloomers. From the time they were about 2 they were intrested in potty training and niether one of them acctually got the concept down really well untill they were close to 3. I found the more I would push them the more both seemed to pull back. So I kept them in diapers and if they told me they had to go potty we would go for the first few months. And like everyone else has said, pull ups are a waste. Once they do pee in them they can't really tell.

But what finally worked on both kids is I put them in a pair of their favorite new underwear and put a long T-shirt on them, and told them I really don't want to have pee on our nice floor and you know how to use the pottie so if you need to go please go to the restroom not on my clean floor. And for some reason for both kids it kind of clicked. I don't know if it was what I had done, or that we waited just a little longer so they understood the concept better. But both kids from then on out did great and at bed time too. (That's not to say there wasn't the occasinal accedent.) But most kids don't like the pee running down their legs or the gross feeling of poop in there new fancy underwear!
Hang in there, my modo is all kids will be potty trained before Kindergarten! She will get soon!

ya dont use pullups they just think its a diaper and they can go potty..we did the undies with bella took a few times with her going pee pee in them..the trick is have HER pick out the undies that are special to her and then she will not want to get them dirty! it will take a few times and she will get the hang of it!

I don't know if I am the best person to get advice from being my kids are boys and Nolin wasn't potty trained until after he was 3....but I agree with the pull-up comments - they are just fancy diapers. We tried everything and what finally worked was letting him go pick out a couple of pairs of underwear. I explained that big kids that use the potty instead of diapers get to wear them and that motivated him. We also watched a couple of online videos at PBS kids and Sesamestreet.com that had some of his favorite characters at the time talking about why using the potty is SO COOL!
A girlfriend of mine swears by her method of setting aside a weekend and every 20 minutes she sets the timer and when the timer goes off her girls (she has twins) had to go sit on the potty and try....
Good Luck!

I don't know.. Logan is working on the pooping side of potty training now.. I'd say he's 50% there.. We went to Target and picked out a REALLY COOL speed racer car.... Everytime he poops in the potty he gets the toy. Everytime he poops in his pants it gets boxed back up and put on a shelf in the dining room.. where he can see it.. But he can't have it. It's the ONLY thing that has worked. He could care less if he poops in underware or pull ups or a diaper. Just means more of a mess for me if I have to take poop out of underware... which I've tried making him clean them out too.. doesn't make a difference. I will say being at home all day or being somewhere (grandma's for logan) helps him. Now that I'm home we are gonna work on it here. BRIBERY... His aunt Jenny promised him a 'special day' wit her if he can poop in the potty all the time.

So, I don't really know what I'm talking about...but do you think her trouble lately has anything to do with being sick?? Poor little thing! Give her a hug from me:)
